Your Savingram No. 532 Staff of 10th November, 1949. Petition from the European Health Inspectore of the Medical Department.

The arguments adduced in the petition and in your Savingram, concerning the salary scale for European Health Inspectors Grade I, have been carefully examined. I find some difficulty in agreeing with the view expressed at the end of paragraph 1 of your Savingram that there are no grounds for maintaining that the position of Health Inspectors Grade I is in any way less favourable than that of similar grades elsewhere in the service.

2. I appreciate the apprehension you express in paragraph 4 of your Savingram that any concessions to Health Inspectors would immediately be followed by demands for similar concessions by Police Sub-Inspectors, Prisons Officers Grade I, etc. I realise also in this connection that a petition by Police Inspectors for improved salaries has recently been turned down (my Despatch No. 250 of the 18th October, 1949, refers) and
